🧡🦋 What happens when a thyroid goiter grows completely into the chest next to the heart and lungs and compresses the airway to nearly the width of a straw?
Complex intrathoracic goiter treated with thyroid artery embolization (TAE)—a minimally invasive, thyroid-preserving alternative for selected patients with large goiters and thyroid nodules.
Before treatment, the patient struggled to breathe, swallow, and sleep and experienced frequent coughing. After a single outpatient TAE procedure, the one-year follow-up scan showed:
✅ 60% reduction in goiter volume
✅ Significantly improved airway opening
✅ Improvement in the patient’s symptoms
✅ No large neck incision or surgical scar
Dr. Allaei is double board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology and has extensive experience treating thyroid nodules and goiters with both thyroid artery embolization and thyroid radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
If you have a large or complex thyroid goiter or nodule and want to explore a thyroid-preserving alternative to surgery, contact for an appointment.

🩸 Ever wondered what hemorrhoid embolization actually looks like?
Come inside the angiography suite as I perform a hemorrhoidal artery embolization (HAE)—a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment for bleeding internal hemorrhoids.
Using ultrasound-guided access through a tiny pinhole, a microcatheter is carefully navigated into the arteries supplying the hemorrhoids. Tiny platinum coils are then placed to reduce the abnormal blood flow causing bleeding—all without removing hemorrhoids or making surgical incisions.
✅ No hemorrhoid excision
✅ Outpatient procedure
✅ Tiny bandage instead of stitches
✅ Performed by a board-certified Interventional Radiologist
If you suffer from persistent bleeding hemorrhoids and want to learn whether hemorrhoid embolization is right for you, we’d be happy to help.
👉 Follow for Part 2 to see the angiogram and exactly which blood vessels are treated.

Can a fibroid interfere with fertility? Its location may matter just as much as its size.
A multidisciplinary Society of Interventional Radiology consensus paper explains that fibroids growing close to the uterine cavity—the space where an embryo implants—may affect fertility in several ways. They may:
• Distort the uterine cavity
• Change blood flow to the uterine lining
• Increase uterine contractions
• Alter hormone levels
• Affect molecular signals and gene activity involved in preparing the uterus for pregnancy
But what about fibroids that don’t touch the uterine lining? Can they affect fertility too? Follow for Part 2 of this evidence-based series.
Dr. Allaei specializes in selective uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), a nonsurgical treatment option for fibroids. Pregnancy after UFE is possible, although fertility outcomes vary and treatment must be personalized to each patient’s fibroids and pregnancy goals.

𝗪𝐡𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞?
Anyone that has a prostate.
⭐️ How does embolization shrink tissue?
Embolization works by reducing blood flow to targeted tissue. Just like plants cannot survive without water, tissues that rely on blood flow gradually shrink when that supply is reduced.
During PAE, microscopic particles are delivered through a catheter into the prostate’s blood supply. These particles reduce excess blood flow to the prostate, allowing it to shrink over time and improve urinary symptoms.
💡 Large clinical studies have shown PAE to be safe and effective, with outcomes comparable to surgery and the advantage of a faster recovery and fewer risks. It is now FDA-approved and covered by some insurance plans.
💡 Clinical success rates have been reported at 85% at 1 year, over 80% at mid-term follow-up, and over 75% at long-term follow-up, making PAE a durable treatment option for many patients.

Live procedure of kidney tumor ablation 👨⚕️🔥
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧?
A specialized probe is precisely placed into the tumor using imaging guidance. Energy is then applied to destroy the tumor from the inside, while surrounding organs are carefully protected.
In this case, you’ll see three needles used during treatment:
1️⃣ Ablation probe — delivers energy to destroy the tumor
2️⃣ Protective needle — infuses sterile fluid and air to safely displace nearby organs and prevent injury
3️⃣ Biosy needle
All performed with CT imaging guidance and meticulous planning.
Why patients choose ablation:
✔ No major surgery
✔ No large incision or stitches
✔ No general anesthesia in many cases
✔ Minimal scarring
✔ Rapid recovery — often home the same day
What conditions can be treated with ablation?
Thyroid nodules, liver tumors, kidney tumors, lung lesions, bone tumors, and select soft-tissue lesions.
Ablation is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive alternative to surgery for properly selected patients.
Always consult a Vascular & Interventional Radiologist experienced in ablation techniques to determine candidacy.

🌍 I recently visited the IR Clinic in Tokyo, Japan where a lot of papers on joint embolization originated. Medicine requires an ongoing commitment to learning to ensure that our patients receive the most advanced care available.
Millions of people live with chronic joint and tendon pain — from frozen shoulder that limits daily activity, to knee arthritis that makes every step hurt, to plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendinopathy that stop you from staying active. For years, the main options were medications, injections, or surgery. But now there’s another path: embolization.
👩⚕️ What is embolization?
Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure performed by an Interventional Radiologist. Using advanced imaging, a catheter is guided through a tiny pinhole in the wrist or groin into the blood vessels that supply the painful area. Dissolvable particles are released to block the abnormal blood flow that fuels pain and inflammation — all while sparing healthy tissue.
✨ Patients go home the same day. No stitches. Less downtime. No large incisions. Just targeted treatment and lasting relief.
✅ Conditions that can benefit:
• Frozen shoulder → better motion and pain relief
• Knee arthritis → less pain, more mobility, fewer surgeries
• Plantar fasciitis → relief from stubborn heel pain when other therapies fail
• Achilles tendinopathy → reduced pain and improved tendon function
📲 No need for you to go to Japan. We have been doing these treatments here in Los Angeles. Contact today to learn if embolization could be the solution for you

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐅𝐄 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞? In the right candidate this procedure can be effective even for large fibroids. However, there are many factors that go into this decision and that’s why it’s important to have a consultation with an experienced physician. Make an appointment to see what results you can expect and avoid major surgery.
The UFE procedure is a non-surgical option that treats all fibroids in one session through its blood supply. This FDA approved treatment has been accepted as an effective alternative to surgery by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been around for over 20 years!!
✨Over 90% of patients and millions worldwide have been treated successfully.
✨Can be performed through the arm (trans-radial), which can be much more comfortable and low risk for patients.
💉Surgery is not your only option. Don’t wait until your fibroids grow even larger.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS) is a hidden but very real cause of chronic pelvic pain in women. It happens when varicose veins develop around the uterus and ovaries.
💡 This patient underwent a non-surgical treatment called Pelvic Vein Embolization — where we use tiny coils and a sclerosant foam to close off those abnormal veins.
📈 Studies show embolization can significantly reduce pain and improve quality of life for women with PCS.
💜 What is Pelvic Congestion Syndrome?
• Varicose veins of the pelvis (like varicose veins in the legs, but around the ovaries/uterus).
• Occurs in up to 15% of women, especially those with multiple pregnancies.
• Symptoms: chronic pelvic pain 😣, heaviness, pain worse after standing, during/after sex, or around periods.
✨ Why Embolization?
• Outpatient procedure ✔️
• No stitches, no big incision ✔️
• No general anesthesia ✔️
• Quick recovery ✔️
• Walk out with just a Band-Aid 👏

Not every day in medicine is easy. There are times we must deliver heartbreaking news, and those moments weigh heavily. 💔
But then there are days like this — when we get to see hope fulfilled. 🌟 Three years ago, I performed a Fallopian Tube Recanalization (FTR) procedure that helped restore a patient’s fertility. Today, I had the privilege of meeting her beautiful 2.5-year-old son as a result of that journey.
Moments like these remind me why I chose this path — and they give strength to carry patients through the most difficult conversations.
✨ About FTR
A minimally invasive procedure that reopens blocked fallopian tubes using X-ray guidance and fine instruments, often allowing women to conceive naturally without major surgery.
These stories keep us going. 💙
